The Pound Puppy Gala, hosted by Red Mountain Resort & Spa and sponsored by Friends of Ivins Animal Shelter, will benefit the Remodel Fund for the Ivins Animal Shelter. The event will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 6:00 PM. Ticket price is $65 per person. All proceeds will be used to provide a generator, equipment, furnishings, outdoor cattery, dog park for the shelter animals and financial assistance to complete the project. The event will feature special guests John Garcia and Jeff Popowich from Best Friends and the National Geographic Channel program Dog Town. The MC for the evening will be Carl Arky, KCSG News Director and Douglas Caputo is the Auctioneer.
The evening will begin with a barbeque, complete with traditional and vegetarian fare created by Executive Chef Dale Van Sky. To date auction items have been donated by L’Deane Trueblood, Lyman Whitaker, John Denny, James Larkin, Connie Butterfield, Owl Woman, Mary Darwall, Nannette Jones, Robin Kirker, Jerry Emery, an autographed Jazz basketball donated by Greg Miller, an overnight adventure at Red Mountain Resort & Spa for 2, Tuacahn tickets and more is continuing to be donated.
As most of you are aware the remodel of the shelter is a necessity to provide a healthy and safe environment for staff, volunteers and the animals. The remodel is being done the old fashion way with everyone rolling up their sleeves, donating their time and talent to help complete this project under budget. Pound Puppy Hike

Red Mountain Spa offers a Pound Puppy Hike for its guests where they come to the shelter and walk one of the dogs. It's been great for both the spa guests and the shelter dogs! Read more about it in this article in Luxury Travel Magazine!

Who Are We?

Homeless, frightened, sick or injured pets must rely on those around them to provide a safe and loving environment. They trust us to provide that safe haven where they can rest, regain their strength and learn to trust again before they find a “Forever Home”.

Ivins City Council approved a new and progressive animal ordinance on January 19, 2006. To embrace the “No Kill” philosophy the ordinance states the following policy.

CHAPTER I – General
6.01.101Policy: It is the policy of Ivins City that no adoptable animal shall be euthanized if it can be adopted into a suitable and adequate home. (Ord. 2006-01)

Friends of Ivins Animal Shelter is a non-profit corporation, 501 (c)(3), founded to support the “No Kill” philosophy at the Ivins City Municipal Animal Shelter. Our shelter is the only “No Kill” municipal shelter in Southern Utah. Ivins is a small community without a large commercial tax base. The “No Kill” philosophy is supported by FIAS. Funding for spay/neuter, vaccinations, emergency medical care, general health care, food for animals requiring special diets, advertising, adoptions events and other needs to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the animals entrusted to our care is provided by FIAS through donations from kind, caring animal lovers.

Why Donate?

Funds are needed to help assist us with all of the programs designed to help the animals. Funds are especially needed for the Remodel/Building Fund. Our shelter is old, small and not appropriate to house animals on a long term basis. Ivins City has $300,000 in the Capital Facilities Plan to refurbish the shelter but an additional $250,000 is needed. Donations may be made to the following special funds.

Continue straight on Center going west to 200 West; turn right; go north to end of street. Shelter is on the right at the end of the street.
